When you search the OVDP, the records meeting your criteria
are returned in a grid view. The grid view enables the clicking and/or dragging of a column
header to sort data; and, for selected users, data editing and other
database management tasks. In addition to the grid view, a search of the OVPD will also return
map results, indicating those counties in which records
meeting your criteria were collected, and a details pane,
which displays detailed information of selected records.
When a search is executed, the OVPD returns all records that meet the search criteria. However,
the OVPD will only display 11 records, listed alphabetically by county in which the specimens
were collected, in the grid view at a time.
In order to view each page of results, you can
navigate the grid using either the next or previous links.
The grid view lists the county in which the collection was made; the family; the genus; species;
subspecies; and variety of all returned records. By default, the records are sorted alphabetically
by county. However, any column can be sorted in either ascending or descending order.
- Click the header of the column you wish to sort
The data in the selected colum is ascendingly sorted.
- Click the header of the column again to sort descending
The Grid view also allows for the dragging of columns, which enables grouping of the data based on
the unique values in the selected column.
- Click the column you wish to group
- Hold the left mouse button down and drag the column to the top of the grid view until two
red arrows appear
- Release the mouse button to "drop" the column
All records for each unique value within the selected column are now grouped together.
- Click the plus sign next to any one of the grouped values to expan the grouped records
We can now view the details of a selected record.
